Certification Standards

What GKPN Certification Actually Verifies

GKPN certification is a documented review of the business protections behind a repair shop. It is not a review of repair quality, and it is not a warranty.

What does a GKPN Certified Shop mean?

A GKPN Certified Shop is an independent repair business that has completed a review by Garagekeepers Pro Network, certified by OnePoint Insurance Partners, covering six areas: Garagekeepers coverage, liability protection, workers' compensation, employee protection, HR & safety standards, and return-to-work practices. Certification reflects the business protections in place at the time of review — not a guarantee of coverage, workmanship or outcome.

Pillar 1

Garagekeepers Coverage

Verification of Garagekeepers coverage appropriate to the shop's operations and customer-vehicle exposure, subject to policy terms.

  • Confirmation that Garagekeepers coverage is in force with the shop's carrier
  • Limits reviewed against the number and value of customer vehicles typically in the shop's care
  • Review of the coverage form (legal liability, direct primary or direct excess)
  • Confirmation of the shop's understanding of deductibles and exclusions

Pillar 2

Liability Protection

Review of Garage Liability or Commercial General Liability, property, tools and equipment, completed operations, and umbrella limits.

  • Garage Liability or Commercial General Liability in force
  • Property, tools and equipment coverage reviewed
  • Completed operations exposure reviewed
  • Umbrella or excess limits reviewed where applicable

Pillar 3

Workers' Compensation

Verification of applicable workers' compensation coverage and documented workplace-injury procedures.

  • Workers' compensation coverage where required by state law
  • Documented procedure for reporting a workplace injury
  • Understanding of experience modification and its cost impact
  • Claims reporting timelines in place

Pillar 4

Employee Protection

Review of employee benefit availability, injury response, and protections in place for the people doing the work.

  • Availability of employee benefits reviewed (benefits are not a certification requirement)
  • Injury response procedures documented
  • Protections in place for technicians and support staff
  • Owner attests to lawful pay and classification practices

Pillar 5

HR & Safety Standards

Review of the employee handbook, written workplace policies, hiring and disciplinary procedures, and safety practices.

  • Written employee handbook in place
  • Hiring, disciplinary and termination procedures documented
  • Shop safety practices and PPE expectations documented
  • Incident reporting process in place

Pillar 6

Return-to-Work Program

Review of light-duty planning, return-to-work procedures, claims management, and loss prevention.

  • Light-duty roles identified in advance
  • Written return-to-work procedure
  • Claims management and communication process
  • Loss prevention review to reduce repeat incidents

Maintaining Certification

Certification Is Reviewed, Renewed and Can Be Withdrawn

Important limitation

GKPN certification is not an insurance policy, does not guarantee coverage will respond to any claim, and does not warranty repair work. Read the full certification disclaimer.
